14 Family-Friendly Paris Hotels That Set a New Bar for Kid-Focused Amenities

Known for its romantic, film-set cobbled streets; bistros that spill onto boulevards in snail platters and ashtrays; and grand museums, teeming with world famous paintings and sculptures, Paris is always a good idea. But with tots in tow? Traditionally, non. The City of Lights has long been a playground for chic couples participating in child-free activities—philosophical contemplation with a café au lait, weaving through precariously balanced antiques at St Ouen, washing down duck confit at La Cloiserie des Lilas with Kir Royales. But quelle dommage to not share such ravishing, Haussmann architecture with little minds.
Paris evokes such child-like awe in adults under its spell; so depriving small people of its visible layers of history, its troves of artifacts, its theater, rich food, and trickling fountains feels desperately sad. While the Parisian culture is gloriously immutable, its hotels are beginning to catch on, luring in families with clever, interconnecting rooms, workshops to keep children engaged, and eggshell-free territory for families to exhale in. From fun, in-room teepees and chocolat chaud welcomes to fully-fledged kids clubs with chalkboard walls just waiting to be decorated with creative overspill, here are the best family-friendly hotels in Paris.
How we choose the best family hotels in Paris
Every hotel on this list has been selected independently by our editors and written by a Condé Nast Traveler journalist who knows the destination and has visited that property. When choosing hotels, our editors consider properties across price points that offer an authentic and insider experience of a destination, keeping design, location, service, and sustainability credentials top of mind. This gallery has been updated with new information since its original publish date.

Hôtel Des Grands Voyageurs
$$$St Germain
The masculine, midcentury embrace of this new St Germain hotel (with those heavily indented whisky glasses and low-slung furniture) doesn’t immediately scream ‘family-friendly,’ but therein lies Hôtel des Grands Voyageurs' charm. For a hotel whose interiors and rhythms are decidedly grown-up, swimming against the tide of hip, zany Parisian boutiques with its Mad Men–era gloss, it’s rather good at keeping children happy too. Indeed, this charming well-cufflinked bachelor is just as smooth with the kiddos, stocking their star-carpeted bedrooms with teepees, toys, Le Petite Prince bath products, and prepping his team on any late-night milk orders.
Refreshingly, the children’s menu in Grands Voyageurs (the hotel’s transatlantic brasserie) encourages children to sidestep the nuggets and sample a little of what their parents are eyeing up (without going too far off piste so as to elicit groans of despair). Parents can hire a babysitter and lean into the Manhattan-swigging, heel-clacking glamour downstairs, where a mix of chic locals and visitors tuck into lobster rolls, ceviche, and Champagne, soaking in designer Fabrizio Casiraghi’s immaculately slick overhaul. Evenings typically wind up in the mirrored prohibition bar downstairs, where a sauna can unravel any excess the following morning (take it in turns while the children discover warm, French baguette). —Rosalyn Wikeley

Le Barn
$Rambouillet
It’s a spicy, stroller-treacherous train ride for families from St Michel to Rambouillet, an easy car transfer is recommendable for the uneasy traveler, but glide out of Paris’s elegant Haussmann thickets some 45 minutes and you’ll reach the Parisian-approved rural bolthole, Le Barn. This bucolic, à la campagne idyll of freshly-baked baguette, mist-strewn meadows, and mills blinking through lacquered burgundy shutters has managed to keep the bourgeois gloss at bay and pose as a friend’s tastefully rustic, easy-going farmhouse…the more sticky mitts, the merrier.
While this may strike as utterly un-Parisian, try the remarkably affable waiters and hotel team, who can take the temperature of any internally stressed parent and conjure solutions—in our case, an early in-room supper for grizzly tots. A cluster of renovated barns, new, Montana-style cabin-like structures (with adjoining family rooms) and an old watercolor mill are enveloped by the Rambouillet Forest and fields grazed by horses that roll on to meet the Chevreuse Valley. The scene could easily be sketched into a children’s storybook—a Gallic spin on Enid Blighton adventures with pony rides through the oaks and pine (book these in advance), bike excursions (complimentary), and endless Gallic country plaisirs (petanque, pottery, fishing, boating—the list goes on). Families descend for breakfast in disheveled conviction for wafer-thin crepes, thick toast lathered in orchard jams, and perfectly boiled eggs. Restaurant La Serre’s seasonal menus sit comfortingly close to French traditions (with a refreshing absence of global palate pleasers), while afternoon home-baked cakes and hot chocolate help break up the day for families, who typically scoff these by the lounge’s traditional ceramic stove or in a sun-drenched conservatory that spills onto a wisteria-topped terrace. Here, Le Barn brings in children’s entertainment over weekends while parents collect themselves over a cocktail and al fresco supper.
It’s the ultimate way to round off a trip to Paris—or ditch the city hotels entirely, tick off a few museums, then bolt for Bonelles. You may even squeeze a few rounds of petanque in before dark.

Avenue Montaigne
There are few addresses in Paris more fashionable than the Hôtel Plaza Athénée. Located on the impossibly chic Avenue Montaigne in the 8th arrondissement, this is the hotel of choice for tout le monde when fashion week descends on the City of Light, and you can expect to see glossy magazine editors and A-listers rubbing shoulders in the lobby or the newly-revamped Dior spa. All that might make you think this isn’t the sort of place you could bring your sticky-fingered sprogs—but you’d be wrong. The hotel is more than happy to welcome little ones, who’ll be delighted with the kid-centric amenities left in their room, from miniature toweled bathrobes and matching slippers to a teddy bear in the Plaza’s iconic shade of red. Winter is a particularly magical time to come when the hotel’s famous courtyard is lit with thousands of twinkling lights and covered over with an ice-skating rink, open for free to the hotel’s youngest guests every afternoon. Ask for a room on one of the higher floors for breathtaking views of the Eiffel Tower, just across the Seine. —Luciana Bellini
- Maison Bréguethotel
Maison Bréguet
11th arrondissement
An elegant home-from-home in the lively 11th arrondissement, Maison Bréguet is tucked away down an unassuming road, and is one of the only boutique hotels in the city with its own pool, as well as a hammam, subterranean sauna, and steam room complete with disco ball. Though the spa facilities are perhaps not as surprising as a minimalist design hotel welcoming families with such open arms. Those with babes-in-arms and younger children will love the extraordinary quietness of the high floors during nap times, and the use of complementary strollers while out and about, while those with older children are well-catered for with interconnecting rooms. Baby monitors, changing mats, babysitting services, and cots are also all happily provided by the staff, meaning nipping out for a nighttime tipple alone or enjoying an unhurried le souper on the restaurant terrace. And when they say family-friendly, they mean the entire family, as pets are welcome too—with dog beds, bowls, and food all available so you needn’t worry about all the extra packing. —Anya Meyerowitz

Though the City of Light awaits outside, inside, beyond the refined chaise longues of the lobby, another discovery is to be made: Le Carrousel, an enchanted kingdom for play, dreamt up by sailor Maud Fontenoy, especially for the Maison’s youngest guests. Le Carrousel sets the stage for children to uncover the wonders of nature, and for budding explorers to set off on authentic Parisian adventures, all under the watchful eye of dedicated Ambassadeurs. Tuileries Garden
There are plenty of stylish touches for kids at this Parisian grande dame of a hotel, starting with the fact that the hotel’s high chairs are designed by none other than Philippe Starck. You’ll find the designer's touch throughout the property, including in the whimsical Le Dali restaurant, where the ceiling is painted with ethereal clouds—Salvador Dali used to spend a month at the hotel every year. Taking a leaf out of the surrealist artist’s book, the emphasis here is firmly on the fun—the staff will set up treasure hunts around the hotel with their in-house mascot, Pistache, on rainy days, and when the sun shines you can pack the kids off to the Jardin des Tuileries across the road. There, the hotel can organize carousel rides and custom-made toy wooden boats to sail on the boat pond. Place du Trocadéro
Shangri-La is one of the most family-friendly hotel brands around, often partnering with charities like Make-A-Wish on fun initiatives for kids. At their Paris property—which was once home to Prince Roland Bonaparte and sits just across from the Eiffel Tower—the smallest of guests are brilliantly looked after by Bamboo the panda, the hotel’s mischievous mascot. At check-in, little ones are presented with their very own passport, which they can use to travel around the hotel and collect stamps at each checkpoint (at the Shang Palace restaurant or the spa, for example). In their room, they’ll discover a mountain of Bamboo-themed gifts, including a cotton backpack, a tiny umbrella for rainy days, a coloring book, slippers, and a panda-shaped cookie, as well as their own mini Bamboo stuffed toy to accompany them on their adventures around the city. He even makes an appearance in the restaurant, where kids can tuck into dishes using their very own panda chopsticks.
